Welcome To Kim Cannan

Kim Cannan's musical influences are many and varied. As a child, there was always an abundance of rock, pop, and rhythm and blues albums played by older siblings. Jazz was also on the agenda, however, as a teenager, Kim decided to study Classical Guitar and so listened to some of the best such as John Williams, Julian Bream and Spanish guitarist Paco Pena. In her 20's, Kim was heavily inspired by the brilliant American guitarist Phil Keaggy.

Gigs were regular during this time and Kim performed in Rock and Funk bands as well as A Soloist around Central Coast and Sydney venues.

Although now a professional singer, Kim was writing many instrumental pieces, some of which became part of her Debut album "INTRINSIC" in the year 2000. With the belief that music indeed is the "Universal language" Kim decided it best to let the music "speak".

"JEWEL BOX" was subsequently released in 2002, this album was a fine natural progression from Intrinsic.

Both albums are similar in style and as Kim says.."have been inspired by the life and beauty of Creation". These albums are rich in melody and interesting time signatures and are a unique blend of instruments both old and new..

Kim's passion to keep music alive in the family home environment inspired her "LULLABY" album.

This album (released early 2006) is different in style to her previous ones.

As the title suggests, it is a compilation of Lullabies, new and traditional including cultures such as French, Italian and Aboriginal.

It has been released as a part of a larger project called the "SONIC HEALING ENVIRONMENT".

This project was birthed after Kim had done much research into the effects of music on both the Unborn and the sick. The former, has been of profound interest to Kim and as a consequence she has formed "Music for the Unborn" presented in workshop and class situations.

The aim of these classes is to expose the unborn Foetus to certain types of music and to equip Mothers to sing Lullabies and offer musical experiences to their young.

As Kim is aware of, previous world wide research suggests that exposing unborn babies to melody and music has a profound effect on their brain development and learning ability.

The singing of LULLABIES seems to be becoming a forgotten Art, it is important to Kim to help "Re-birth" and perpetuate this experience...
